Recycling with B/R since 1993
University of Washington Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) department has been recycling xylene from the histology/pathology labs since 1993.
They estimate that they recycle 1000 gallons (3785 liters) of xylene per year with a savings of $40 000 USD per year in purchase costs and $1500 per year in disposal costs. Since 1993 they have saved a total of $913 000 USD by recycling 22 000 gallons (83250 liters) of xylene!
What a great example of an EH&S department taking the initiative to generate huge costs savings for the university as well significant benefit to the environment.

Quest Diagnostics is focused on making their labs more sustainable by recycling their solvents. In 2014 they recycled over 1352 gallons (5,000 liters) of solvents!
That is over 122 metric ton reduction in their carbon dioxide foot print.
While helping the environment, they also saved over $24,000 USD in solvent purchase and disposal costs in just one year.
You can only imagine the impact if every lab got serious about sustainability.

Marin Medical has been recycling with their B/R recycler for quite some time. Their unit has long since payed for itself, and they continue to accrue savings year after year.
Recycling with B/R since 1999
Long before people were using buzzwords like “sustainability” and “health care cost reduction” Emory University Hospital was already looking for ways to reduce costs and limit environmental impact.
They starting recycling used formalin from their histology labs in 1999 and added a second formalin recycler in 2006.
Recycling with B/R since 2013
University of Maryland Shore Medical Center has taken an innovative approach to reducing healthcare costs and promoting sustainability by recycling their histology solvents.
The histology lab solvent recycling is saving 95% of the cost of buying new solvents and of hauling waste solvent away. By recycling they are

V.A. Medical Center in Salt Lake City is recycling around 2000 liters (520) gallons of solvent per year. Savings are 95% of the cost of buying new solvents and of hauling waste solvent away.
Recycling with B/R since 1991
They have been improving the environment and minimizing operating costs since 1991 when they bought their first B/R solvent recycler.
Over the last 23 years the hospital has accrued significant savings by reducing solvent purchases and hazardous waste removal by 95%.
Recycling with B/R since 2000
MD Pathology is still recycling solvent with the same recycler they purchased back in 2000. Their costs savings keeps adding up year after year.
At the same time they are practicing sustainability by eliminating the generation of tons of hazardous waste and its incineration.

The Zoological Museum at the Danish University curates a large number of zoological specimens. A significant volume of alcohol is required to preserve these specimens. Since 2013 they have been recycling their used alcohol, saving money and helping the environment.
